Day 1/July 23
Welcome to San Francisco, where the pervasive smell of pot will provide multiple opportunities for special conversations with your kids.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. We left Charlotte today and flew to San Francisco to start CARV21 as I just named it (that’s California RV ‘21). We have the weekend in San Francisco before we pick up the RV Monday and head out to the national parks.
After an alarming email from American Airlines that lines at CLT have been extra long, we gave ourselves lots of time. Ron has pre-check which means the kids get pre-check but the wife does not so I had to trek down to the common people security line. Normally a bummer but since this was probably my last alone time for the next 15 days I walked extra, extra slow and volunteered for additional screening.
Our flight left on time, landed on time, everyone had seats together and no one left their iPad behind. Frankly, it was entirely un-Niekro like.
After dropping our bags we gamely jumped on MUNI to get to Fisherman’s Wharf and walk around. Far be it for me to tell San Francisco how to design their public transit but they could use a few more signs and maps to make things clearer. But, to be fair, it’s probably super hard to draw maps and create signs when you’re high all the time.
Peace. XO
