Week 2 of this unprecedented, unpopular, unforgiving and unkind academic year is under our belts. Except who wears belts now? More accurate to say it’s under the waistband of our yoga pants.

It was a mixed bag but featured my return to the office, Ally’s first softball game of the year and 14 Zooms. Some random thoughts.

  • Does my hatred of Duke extend to U11 recreational softball opponents? Yes. Yes, it does.
  • There’s a rooster that lives at the field where Casey has soccer. Seeing him is the highlight of my week. Sadly, he seems less impressed by me than I am by him.
  • How hard do you have to smile behind a mask for someone you walk by at work to know you’re smiling at them?
  • Why is Casey “in the house” in HouseParty during the school day? Maybe playing Chips and Guac counts for math credit.
  • Mallory’s Spanish teacher makes them do squats during class and count to 15 in Spanish while they do them. All you can see are their heads bobbing up and down.
  • No, Mallory’s desk has not yet arrived, but the card table we dragged out from the garage is working just fine, thank you very much.

All in all, a solid B for the week. In these unimaginable, uninspiring, unyielding and unfriendly times, we’ll take it.

Peace. XO.
