Here at the Niekro Academy (motto: Dedicated to Okayness Since 2020), we have some low admissions standards. Show up at the dining room table around 9 am and you’re in. Jammies encouraged.
Our small size allows for opportunities you can’t get just anywhere. You can be class president, head of the debate team and on the swim team all at the same time. We value independent learning and every Friday lunch is provided by our corporate partner Door Dash.
One of our first assignments was a Power Point presentation on a topic of your own choosing. Our students did not disappoint. In fact, they liked it so much they each did two:
Mallory: Why Tik Tok is Awesome and Why Ohio State Sucks
Casey: the 1-16 Picks of the 2020 NFL Draft and the 17-32 Picks of the 2020 NFL Draft
Ally: Water Towers and Why the TV Show Friends is Awesome
The kids also had some work from their “other” school this week and they mostly took care of that without complaining. Casey had a Zoom call for the entire sixth grade and Ally’s awesome teacher called for the first of her weekly check-ins.
Casey and Ally chose that exact moment to get into an epic fight about something so incredibly important that neither of them can remember what it was about 11 hours later. Ally blabbed the whole thing to her teacher as soon as she got on the phone and I’m sure made Casey out to be the bad guy.
On the bright side, we have almost made it to Friday and I’m calling it a teacher workday. No kids should attend as the teacher will have a critical in-service.
Peace. Xo.
